Establishment of BSC, Affiliations of Union, First General Meeting and Nominations Guidelines

Dear President of Brunei Students' Union (IIUM),

Assalamu'alaikum warahmatullah,

We hope that this email reaches you in a high islamic esteem.

Apparently, the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has the most numbered students out of all Brunei students in Malaysia and and glad that it is the only institution which has its own union for Brunei students. Here are few subjects to be pointed out, for the benefit of the Brune Students' Union as well as Brunei Student Council.

Establishment of Brunei Student Council

Brunei Student Council (BSC) in Malaysia, under the administration of the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in Malaysia, which has recently been established, would want to inform the the committees and members of Brunei Students’ Union regarding the foundation of this council. Details about the establishment can be viewed in the website of Brunei Student Council.

Affiliations of Union under Brunei Student CouncilUpon the foundation, we would like Brunei Students' Union (BSU) in IIUM to be affiliated under the Brunei Student Council in Malaysia in order to be legally bonded to one another. Please consider this invitation and write a letter to the following address for affiliations, so we can co-operate in any organisations of events and activities in a later time.

The First General Meeting BSC 2010/2011

Besides that, we want to remind students in the institution registered under this union to attend The First General Meeting of Brunei Student Council Malaysia 2010/2011, as follows:Date: 8th August 2010, SundayTime: 2.00 pmVenue: Binjai Residency, Jalan Binjai, 55000, Kuala Lumpur (5 minutes walking distance from Ampang Park LRT Station)Dress Code: Smart casual and decent Kindly, please visit the official website for further details on the positions and job scopes of the councilors.

The organising committees have recently concluded the nomination and election system for the appointment of the councilors. As we are heading for the actual event, we decided to start the stage of nominations, from now on. Thus, we want everybody to co-operate with one another, so we do not spend so much time on nominations on the day of election. Here are important guidelines for the nominations to be operated by students within each institution:

Guidelines of Nominations

All Brunei students from all institutions are eligible to nominate and to volunteer for candidature of the election.

All students from each institution shall then list out few names and discuss among the students of the same institutions, who shall be the potential candidate to represent the institution (may be by votes).

Each institution shall end up with only one candidate to be elected during the event.
Students (not the candidate) shall provide one testimonial of the representing candidate (a paragraph or two long) from each institution, in order to secure the election.

Consequently, the candidate representing each institution will then be brought forward for the election of eight posts, apart from the Patron and Advisor, in the council mentioned in the website. Every institution is required to submit the following to the organising committees, before or on Sunday, 8th August 2010, precisely before the event begin.

Name of candidature

ID/Passport number

Name of Institution

Testimonial of candidature

In any case, we want all institutions in Malaysia to participate in the nomination in order to accomplish the objective of Brunei Student Council to unite all Brunei students. We also would want your co-operation in working together among students in the same institutions for this nomination stage to be executed in order to proceed.Election system and procedures will be acquainted during the general meeting.Any problems arise related to the council particularly on the nominations and affiliations, please do not hesitate to ask any of the organising committees (Abdul Qayyuum, Fathi Fo'ad and Ani Ruzana). We are willing to help you.

Your co-operation and consideration are highly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
